This week we’re dealing with the servant-hearted attitude that Jesus teaches us to have. We’re going to do some things that will stretch some in your group in ways that will make them a bit uncomfortable, no doubt. It’s worth noting that Jesus never made following him a comfortable experience so let’s see if we can encourage and disciple our group to greater obedience to Jesus this week.

What is the most memorable thing anyone ever did for you?

Breaking Bread together
Prepare some bread and wine and celebrate communion together. Set the scene with some candles and start with a time of silence. Begin your worship time with everyone giving thanks to God in prayer and then it would be helpful to read the passage in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 in preparation for sharing the bread and the wine together.

Last week we asked you to ‘breathe in’ and take a Sabbath rest, how did that go?

Have a basin of water and some hand towels ready, we’re going to do what Jesus said we should do. You can pair people up to make it a bit less awkward, but make sure everyone washes someone’s feet and that everyone has their feet washed. (those who do not meet in homes, you may need to think creatively about how to manage this week’s lesson)
How did it make you feel to have someone wash your feet? And having someone wash yours?
Why do we find it so hard to follow Jesus’ example in these things?
What do you think Jesus is teaching us by asking us to do this?
We’re told to love our enemies and here, by washing even Judas’ feet, Jesus models this. Who do you feel you need to serve this week in following Jesus’ example?
