Sunday Service - 5 December 2021

LIVE SERVICE

Given the darkness of this world that we're living in, it's all too easy for us to fool ourselves into thinking that we're good by comparison. But better than bad is still not good. Darkness and light are not different degrees of the same thing - they are complete opposites. And being God's holy people means being different from the rest of the world. That is how we bring others into the light of His kingdom: not by winning them over through sharing in little dark deeds that might cement a friendship and prove our acceptance, nor by pointing out all the things they're doing wrong, but by being a living example of someone who has escaped the pull of darkness and sin to find the best of life in the light of Jesus.

Ephesians verse-by-verse, challenges believers to live out the gospel. If the people of our city, of our school, of our family, are going to hear the gospel - it's going to be from our mouth. Encounter Ephesians and get swept up into the story of Jesus.

Last week we heard about the call to unity within the church, now in Part 7 of our Ephesians series Paul gets down into the nitty-gritty of our new life in Jesus Christ. It's a complete turn-around from our old way of living, which requires us to unlearn our bad habits and attitudes, and actively replace them with new ones, ones that are Christlike. You might wonder how such a change could even be possible, as the saying goes: "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". But the wonder revealed in this passage shows us that our old ways were actually a corruption of our design - this new life that we are called to live... this is what we were truly made for.
