About the event
Basic Skills is starting on Saturday, 17 February! The program runs for four weeks, and we'd love your support.
Basic Skills go beyond just learning practical skills – it's a place for meaningful connections and to create a sense of belonging. Many lasting relationships have formed over the years, leading to the creation of the Grace in Action community group that meets every Saturday morning at the Hub.
Here's what one of our leaders Senzeni says about Basic Skills and what it meant to her:
"I remember starting Basic Skills back in 2015. Over the years, I completed all the courses, but the one that benefited me the most was Life Skills. I had very low self-esteem, and Life Skills helped me become the person I am today. I learned to love God and myself again. It wasn't easy, but opening up helped me understand who I am. And I'm not alone. Many others were in the same place as I was. Life Skills help us know God and understand His love for us.
Many of the people who attend Basic Skills do not know Jesus, so it's a way to plant seeds and strengthen those who are already growing. It helps.
Some of us have never had exposure or an opportunity to use a computer or a sewing machine. The courses teach us how to use computers and sewing machines, as well as how to bake and cook. Even with first aid, we learn how to react when there is an emergency at home. All of this helps us improve ourselves and become better workers too.
The Grace in Action Community Group was formed out of Basic Skills. It's a community group that meets every Saturday morning to learn more about the Bible while doing crafts and learning more about crafts too.
Last year, some of us managed to sell our crafts and baked goods at one of the local markets to make extra money. It was a good experience, and we learned a lot. Basic Skills have helped us grow stronger and grow together as a community of people who follow Jesus, work together, grow together, and love one another. I hope our group will grow this year because we all need to learn, and Basic Skills help us grow in many different ways."
Thank you. As a congregation, you have always been so generous towards Basic Skills, and it has made a difference in so many lives.
